Swaying in the Breeze

Okay, there was no breeze, but I did sway. Swayed from my principles and beliefs, swayed from my promises to myself about growing from good heirloom seed, and lastly, swayed from buying from small and trustworthy businesses.

I bought eggplant seedlings and didn't even look to see where they'd come from. In fact, I didn't even care.
They were so pretty... look at the difference, the photo above is my eggplant grown from a reputable seed, all the others are store bought from who knows where.

There's a big difference in looks between the two... the store bought ones are strong and lush and healthy, with crisp green leaves, new growth, no blemishes and no half eaten leaves.

And I admit it, I was swayed by nothing but good looks.
Are they not beautiful though?

Not only did I sway, I revelled in my swaying. Gripped in the full force of vegetal lust I bought four different kinds, that stripey purple one, a plain dark purple one, a skinny purple one and a white one.
You can see that I can't remember their names at all, hey. I was beyond caring, all I could think of were eggplants, big ones, little ones, striped ones, white ones, any kind at all, and finally, maybe, just maybe it was going to be possible to grow eggplants in our garden.
Who bothers to ask names when you are blinded by such a moment of pure passion?

I hope we never meet! Anonymous as I am on my blog, you can't tell that I am a little chewed at the edges and not as verdant as I once was. Imagine me lush and full of sap...and never be swayed from that vision.

Hmmm ... compelling argument! ;-) Now are you certain your seedling is an Eggplant? Coz it looks a bit like a Capsicum from this distance. Time will tell - the seeds are very similar. The Eggplant leaves are usually a bit thicker, softer and furrier than Capsies. They are all hungry buggers and thirsty too. Gotta keep the food and water up to them (and Capsies too) or they come down with all the bugs on the planet.

Hey Ali, no need to feel guilty about falling in love with lush healthy plants. I'm sure there are much worse sins. I see many yummy eggplant dishes in your future.

Hazel, with wit such as yours, you will never go saggy at the edges, it will life you up and provide you with life long gloss! Your comment gave me such a giggle, miss lush and sap.

Elaine, you know, that really could be a capsicum... hmmm... I am down the coast now on a break, but as soon as I get home I will stick my face in that plant and see. I took the photo in a rush as we were going away, and you are right, it does look rather capsicumesque. It wouldn't be the first time either!

My fingers are crossed for those eggplant dinners missy, oh let my lust be justified!

Elaine I went and had a closer look, and I am pretty sure it's an eggplant... it doesn't look well, but it's furry and very pliable, very eggplantesque.

I'll keep an eye on it to see what it does, lol, I wouldn't count on it actually producing anything though.
