You Can't Always Be Green

I am not a huge lover of growing flowers. I do like them of course, and I love cut flowers in the house, even if they are just stuck in a glass they make a room look loved.
A few months ago though, it occurred to me that I didn't really have any at all in the garden, and that if I wanted some, I was going to have to Make An Effort.
So I chose to plant marigolds. They are all from seed, so I am quite chuffed with them. As I really didn't care about them at the time, I just threw them on the garden here and there, in and amongst the vegetables. Most of them ended up growing around the lettuce, but there are a few near some beans and cauliflower too.
I chose marigolds for a few reasons; they are reputed to repel nematodes and other garden pests, and you can eat the flowers too, they look really pretty in salads. But mostly I grew them because I see them in vegetable gardens everywhere, and they make me feel like I'm a proper gardener.
And I chose to post about them because I thought they'd look pretty on the blog page :)

I don't grow a huge amount of flowers either, namely companion ones like your marigold. They do add a little magic (and colour) to the garden. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks Mangocheeks, I'm going to have a go at putting them in salads, after I convince myself that I can eat a flower :)

There are a number of different types of marigolds - and they are not all edible to my knowledge... you might want to double check the variety first :)

I finally joined your lovely blog after being a long time reader because I want to post on your banana cam photos - but can't seem to do that?

Anyway, congratulations Ali on a great blog and keep up the good work!

Cripes Donna, I'd better check my marigolds! They survived the corn though, so I think they have quite the iron stomachs! I'll make the banana cam into a page of its own, I think then you can comment on it... if that doesn't work I'll try something else.

Thanks for your kind words about my blog :)

And I'm a 74 too!

Hey Donna, I am an internet genius and worked out how to push the enable comments button. It only took me a month to find it... If my brain got any bigger my eyeballs would pop out.

You can post on the banana cam now!
