Mrs Goggins

Well this is it, I finally took the plunge and our family is now the proud owner of one young cat.

I really wasn't sure about getting a cat. I am a dog person, a sucker for a little puppy, and have never really been attracted to cats in general. Particular cats yes, but not cats as a rule.

But the boys are cat crazy. At every friend's house with a cat Felix would invariably hunt down their moggy and triumphantly parade around the house holding the poor creature of his affection right around the stomach, cat almost folded in half.

And they are loving Mrs Goggins. We got her last night, and Luka was up until 10pm, following her around, taking her to her water and generally exclaiming over any move she made.

"Mummy! Mummy!"
"What is it?"
"Mrs Goggins is on the couch, quick, come look!"
"Mummy, Mummy!"
"Yes?"
"Mrs Goggins is drinking water!"

And despite not being a cat person, I must admit, I am finding Mrs Goggins particularly appealing.

Baby anything will steal your heart. Don't take this the wrong way, but you called one of your boys Felix....he had to be a cat lover, eh?

Yes I'm a dog person too but Mrs Goggins is very very cute. Hope you all have fun together.

Hazel, that's really funny, because the boys have gone off the name Mrs Goggins (they chose it) and now want to call the cat Felix. I keep trying to explain that the cat cannot be called Felix, but my argument isn't washing with them.

And I promise that our lovely little man's name wasn't inspired by any cartoon character's, although we do now have the full quota of Felix The Cat Paraphanalia, including the doona cover :O

Oh wow Mrs Goggins/Felix is gorgeous and all is well in the world!
Cats can be called any old thing, one of ours is called Banana.
You will fall deeply in love with her, even when she brings in half a dead mouse and you stand on the bottom end and it squishes between your toes.

SO glad she's appealing to you, good on you darl. And I'm hoping Mrs Goggins as a name makes a comeback : )

Jodie I like Mrs Goggins too, I am going to have to push it a little more. She is a bit fun, she's currently running around like a nutbag - she was sleeping two minutes ago!

Perhaps you could take a stand on the cat name coz Felix is a boy's name and if your cat really is a girl, it wouldn't suit would it? Anyway, think of the total confusion when you want one but not the other Felix! Mrs G is just a tad weird for a delightful girly-looking kitten, though :-)

I know it's weird Elaine, and it's very hard to enforce on an as yet unmatronly kitten! And we cannot call the cat Felix! I'm not losing this battle :)

That really is a cute little animal! I wish it were mine. In your first photo it looks like a leopard stalking through the jungle (until you compare its size to the daisy flower!) Where does the name Mrs Goggins come from? Jane says it is the name of a character in the Postman Pat stories -- is this true?

Ali said...

Oh yes, of course, Postman Pat!

Thank you so much Mark, the boys came up with the name a while ago and I knew it, but I just could not place it. They play a game where one of them is Mrs Goggins, and whenever they say it they just dissolve into laughter. Our neighbour is English and she gave Luka a set of Postman Pat books years ago for his birthday. We read them all the time.

Please tell your Jane that she is brilliant, it's been bothering me for weeks!

As a dog/person I think she is sweet and lovable and will very quickly grow into the name Mrs Goggins.

Ali; You really ought to persuade your boys to call the cat Jess (who we all know was Postman Pat's cat -- oh, but it was black-and-white wasn't it?)
Best Wishes for 2011. Hope the Queensland floods subside soon...

Ali said...

Yep, Jess is black and white. I love the name Mrs Goggins, I think because it's slightly ridiculous for a kitten and that appeals to me.

At the moment Mris Goggins is being called "kitty cat" by the boys. She is also being called a he, as in, "look mummy, kitty cat is sleeping, he's on my bed!"

There's A LOT of enthusiasm for this cat. Every move is documented at a very high volume.

Happy New Year to you too Mark, enjoy the last (??) of your lovely snow.
