The Second Child

This is the second banana tree finally fruiting. I only actually noticed it when the flower had peeled back to reveal the bananas. There was no waiting with bated breath for the unknown, and certainly no detailed Banana Cam following its progress.

It's not that I love it any less... I think the new bananas are beautiful, all lovely and bright and pretty and new. It's just that with the two of them now, I have to divide my attention between them.

Mulching and watering and feeding, bagging them both to protect from the bats and digging up the little suckers to keep them from sucking the life out of the fruit. It all takes time, and it's constant.

I've got no idea how I am going to cope when the third one comes along.
