Well Christmas is all over and the boys and I are back home again... I hope you all had wonderful days with lots and lots of good food and good cheer.
We spent our Christmas down on the Gold Coast with my parents, and as usual I have come back as full as a goog (I've really no idea how to spell that). My mum likes to feed her people up.
So apart from a massive chicken mission (rain+chicken coop= swimming pool), I haven't really looked around the garden for a few days. It's still raining as I type, quelle surprise, so it doesn't look like much happened while we were away. But whilst on the massive chicken mission, I did notice something.
I trudged back inside to get my camera, and this photo is for Esther and Mark.
Remember the rhubarb?
I was a bit worried after your comments on the leaves not looking particularly rhubarbesque. And when I googled rhubarb images I realised that the seedlings looked nothing like rhubarb. Apart from the red stems. I was getting worried about what on earth my bizzare seedlings were.
But all that worry was in vain. Here's a photo of a new leaf.
Now it looks like rhubarb.
Thank Goodness, I could not go through another episode of look at my watermelon, oops sorry, that's a zucchini.
Merry Holidays People!

Hi Ali; Agree. Your rhubarb looks like the real thing now! My advice is don't be tempted to crop it too soon. Leave it to build up some strength first (preferably a whole year, though you may not be able to resist that long). Take only one or two stalks at first, leaving some to gather more energy for the plant. If you strip the thing all in one go it will not thank you and will produce a weak crop.
Good luck with "The Chicken Mission". (sounds like the name of a rather naff movie ...
Thanks for that Mark, I haven't grown rhubarb before. I am hoping that they will make it through, I noticed the bugs getting to some of the leaves, which is what you get when you plant things completely out of season I guess.
The chicken coop is a mess, the rain is honestly just pouring down and has done so for months now. The coup forms a bit of a bowl and it has become quite suitable for ducks, and the chickens have quite frankly bird brains and stand in the water...
At least it isn't snowing!!
Hi Ali, I gave myself a couple of days off for Christmas but find I missed blogging and catching up with all my friendly bloggers. Glad you had a great Christmas. Congrats on the rhubarb being rhubarbesque!
Oh Hazel, I was intending to take a few weeks off, but I missed everyone too! I am going away on holidays in February, I promise not to blog then :)
So nice to see you again, now start posting!
