This is the front path that leads from the front gate, to the front steps, to the front door of our house.
It's not very beautiful.
Not only is it not very beautiful, it's also set in a dip which forms a lovely little swimming pool for the enjoyment of your toes when it rains.
So I want to do this.

And fill it with herbs.
It looks very close to the bottom of the steps in the photo above, but if you look at the photo below, it's a good way away from them.
I like the idea of not just having a straight path up to the house. I love the idea of being surprised with the sight and smell of lovely fresh herbs as you walk in the front gate. There's plenty of room to walk around the bed, and the concrete path is ugly and impractical anyway.
But I am worried that it's bad feng shui to put an obstacle in your way on your journey to my front door.
Will anyone ever come visit us again?

It's a great idea darl, those herbs will love it just as much as I love visiting you : )
Aww, you are just lovely Jodie :) I can't wait to see everyone again.
Ali; If I could, I would come to visist you, just BECAUSE you had a herb garden, not DESPITE it. I vote in favour of your plan.
I would! go for it - it's a lovely idea.
I would visit the home with fragrance fuming out of herbs!
Especially I love lemon grass and cloves.
I can't say much more than Takaeko...it says it all really. But on the other hand, I didn't know we had been invited anyway. So if I was invited, I would like to be met by the fuming herbs but I might like a pathway to follow so I knew where to go.
the people that love will wade thru weeds to see you but your making it so much more peasnt for them
Hi Ali,
I would go for it! A lovely idea that like you say, would add interest when approaching the front door.
How about walking to your front door in the dark? Personally, I like walking through lovely things... so if you made two boxes... one on either side of your walkway??
I think it would look perfect! And maybe add some solar lighting so you don't fall over the boxes in the dark. It will look great!
Thank you so much everyone for your kind comments... last night I received a visit from a dear and inebriated friend, and as we sat on the front steps waiting for her taxi, she turned to me and demanded, quite clearly, to know what on earth, "that great hulking mass right in the middle of the bl**dy footpath" was.
I might have to think about Shady Gardener's suggestion of one on either side!
And Hazel, not only would you be invited, your invitation would be sent out FIRST.
With a small jam request of course :p
I don't know many people with a straight path to their door, you have to meander through pot plants to get to mine. Probably only bad feng shui for those who trip over and fall into gardens- usually me lol. :p
I like you idea of growing them on either side, and if some spill over onto the cement pathway that would be lovely as well.
Not being a feng shui expert, I'm sure the welcome is the important bit.
Kat that is quite funny.
Missy, that's a lovely sentiment, I've staked the box into place and will leave it there for a bit, see how visitors react. Too many more of "what's that great hulking thing" type comments and I'll rethink it.
I do like vrtlarica's idea of solar lights, as I have come back round to wanting it in the middle rather than one either side. I want to put fruit trees either side!
Lol, a few years time you'll need a map to get to my front door :)
