100%

Those of you familiar with Hazel Dene might remember this fabulous rating that her dad (I think!) came up with. The percentage refers to the amount of food that comes from your garden, so for example if you have a roast chicken (shop bought) with three veg (garden grown), you might rate it at 50%.

I had been thinking about this challenge for a while, just biding my time, and this afternoon it dawned on me that I could probably pull it off.

So off I trotted into the garden, scissors and basket in hand.

I cannot lie, it wasn't easy, but tonight my dear bloggers, the boys and I had a delicious, nutritious 100% home grown meal.

This is what we found in the garden...
eggplant
mini chocolate capsicum
mini green capsicum
rocket
lemongrass
basil
tomatoes
five spice
oregano
perpetual spinach
lime
mustard leaves
four green beans
eggs
chives

And this is what we made...
I'll never make it as a food photographer I know, but I am just bursting with pride over our little egg roll stir fry.

Thanks for the challenge Hazel's dad.

Yay! That's fantastic (I love how you've been biding your time, that made me laugh).

I once read that when doing food photography, if you want it to look piping hot you soak a tampon in boiling water and secrete it behind the plate and steam will rise up as if it's from the food!

100% - a great way to enjoy your efforts in the garden. Hope I can get some 100% days this summer (will have to be veggie days)!

You are such a clever little poppet, Ali! Your example of the roast chicken and veggies is not correct however. Bought chicken plus three home grown veggies would be 75% (never mind the real maths). Now we will have to see who else can come up with a one hundred percenter. I don;t think I like the idea of a tampon in my dinner though. :-(

A perfect score - congratulations - did it taste as good as it looked?

Respect!
That first photo, of the eggs and veg together, is worthy of being in a cookery book. The only eggs I'm likely to find in my garden are those of wild birds. [we currently have a very vocal brood of young starlings in a nest very close to our bedroom window. Argh!]
