Tommy Toe Tomatoes and Thank You

The more I look at this photo the more I notice my wrinkly fingers and forget about the Tommy Toe.

Which is wrong, because Tommy Toes are way more exciting than wrinkly fingers, especially seeing that this particular tomato is the first to ripen since the flooding we had in Brisbane. And I promise myself that I will try very very hard to never ever ever run out of home grown tomatoes again. Ever.

Tomatoes aside, I wanted to thank you all for your lovely wishes for my birthday. I posted the mushroom kit post a little hurriedly, as we were off camping for the long weekend (no less than several national holidays for my birthday), and when we arrived home this afternoon of course the first thing I did was turn on my computer. And when I saw all your kind comments, I was very chuffed indeed.

If being greeted by vine ripened tomatoes and tons of well wishes is what birthdays are all about now, growing older is not so bad methinks :)

Ali you are so gorgeous. And that tomato is precious indeed! You must be having lovely sunshine to ripen your tomatoes...a friend came to visit from Sydney this weekend and could't believe how cold Melbourne's Autumn is.

Don't be too hard on Melbourne, Mrs Bok...I mean what would a Sydney sider know! It has been lovely and sunny.

Oh, and Lovely Ali, I am jealous of anyone who can even contemplate home grown tomatoes all year round. *sigh*

Oh Hazel, I am trying so hard! It is certainly possible to have tomatoes all year round here, maybe not so much the big ones, but cherry and tommy toes (mid size) for sure. Surely out of everything we grow the tomato is right up there.

And thank you Mrs Bok, we are having quite spectacular weather at the moment - clear and clean and not quite crisp yet. As for Melbourne, just think of all your lovely stone fruit and winter veg that just don't do as well here :)

Home grown tomatoes all year round is something to savour, although Tommy Toes is a very off putting name. Who on earth came up with a name like that? The thought of eating toes - yuk!

Hi just found your blog.
Don't worry about wrinkly fingers, I gave up on the wrinkles a long time ago. lol
We are just starting our toms here in u.k. and am hoping for a bumper crop, certainly will be if the weather keeps up like it is now. Its baking hot at the moment, very strange for April.....
Happy Easter

Hi Ali; You think THOSE are wrinkly fingers?? You should see mine! Hope the camping trip was enjoyable (and I trust you did not camp under any huge Gum trees with a propensity to lose their branches..)
We have loads of public holidays round about now too - Easter this last weekend, and then May Day coupled with an extra holiday next Friday for the royal wedding. Which for me all adds up to lots of gardening opportunities, which suits me fine since this is the busiest time of the gardening year for us.

Hope you enjoyed your camping. Isn't the weather here just the best at the moment... and we get another long weekend next weekend.

Hi Ali, is it late to say happy birthday? Just know this.

Ooo thank you MsB, of course it's not too late! With all these fabulous public holidays it's a bit like my birthday holiday anyway :)

Missy, the weather while we were away was perfect, not hot, not cold, lovely and fresh, and not even a hint of rain at our campsite... and the stars... my goodness, I haven't seen stars like that for a long, long time.

Mark, I love your paranoia re random gum branches because I have a paranoia of my own... sharks... I can barely stay in the ocean for more than two minutes at a time, and even then I try to swim next to people who look a little tastier than me. Which is very silly, because I have heard that more people are killed by falling coconuts each year than shark attacks.

Don't know gum branch stats though.

Thank you very much for your wrinkle non worries and easter wishes Briony, here's hoping all our tomatoes are fabulous!

And LBM, I've never quite thought of it that way! Tommy Toes are delicious, I can't say the same for Tommy's toes though :)
