Mushrooms: Part Two

My goodness I worked hard in the garden this weekend. I planted and pruned and dug up and moved. I shoveled and raked and above all, I cleaned up. Gosh I had let the place get messy. Piles of dead branches everywhere, waiting to have something done to them. But not anymore. Now the yard is lovely and shiny and tidy...

And when I was finally done and came upstairs to clean up, I thought I would just take one little peek before having a shower.

And look - mushrooms! A little fungal reward for all my hard work.

I am very excited... I have no idea when to harvest them, or even how to harvest them, but who cares, I have produced fungi. Ooo yes dear blogging friends, that's right - fungus in plural. Three of them to be exact, which makes them worth exactly $8.33 recurring each.
And I think there are more to come :)

That'll reduce costs!

Wow! I grow fungus too...between my toes! Something else we have in common Lovely Miss Ali! Now...do keep an account of how many mushies you get ( could you weight them?) because I want to know if it is economically advantageous to buy one of these. I mean to say, if you can grow them, then I suppose anyone can. :=)

Hazel, I think you can get pungent smelling ointment for your toes...

Ali, I am impressed, I have bought two of those in the past and had limited success...well done..I do know they dont take long to grow, so by tomorrow they will be bigger still....x

I will absolutely weigh them for you my dear Hazel, and I might even set up some sort of little button so we can follow the day by day progress of these little fungal treasures... and yes, if I can produce fungus - anyone can... although thank goodness my whopping talents do not extend to my toes.

Suzanne I am really hoping that this will work - I'd love to have a good supply of fresh mushrooms... I LOVE mushrooms... yum...

No offence Ali, but when you first see that photo it can really put you off your breakfast! In that colour, it looks like some kind of growth on a human.

Apart from that - well done!

So exciting! I think our kits are at about the same stage. Mine aren't looking particularly round at the moment though - and all the growing seems to be happening around the edges.

I love it, especially that you've worked out the cost at 8.33 recurring! We grew mushrooms once in our cellar, and yes it was intentional!!

The hydroponic set up down there always drew some raised eyebrows, especially as my husband has long hair. LOL.

It was all perfectly innocent however.

We never really made self sufficiency on the mushrooms though, and growing them made me more interested in different varieties so I ended up buying more.

We have morels that grow in our woods, but I've never tried to grow actual mushrooms. I just eat the ones I find! :-)

Congrats, the photo looks a bit like two legs and a bum but hey that's whats great about home grown.

I have passed by those mushrooms kits so many times. Like the others I would like to know if they are really worth it. I will follow along with your progress.

Hi Ali,
Have never grown mushrooms myself, well done to you for giving it a go....and succeding! The one in the first picture reminds me of the molecule models from my chemistry days at schoo; a thousand years ago.
