I have not had the best time over the past week or so. I was woken up on Mother's Day with a bit of a shock - something had had a go at our hens. The chickens were okay; quite a few feathers missing, but our lovely little silkie bantam has had her skin torn in several places. Quite surprisingly I think she is going to be alright, she's such a quiet little thing that I am amazed she didn't die of shock.
Felix had been sick for the whole week with tonsillitis, so very much not fun, and then on Monday he came up in spots. Serious measles-like spots, so off to the doctor for some tests we went. He is fine and recovering nicely now, although he still looks like an example from a medical textbook.
"Amazing Tropical Skin Diseases". Or perhaps "Survivors of The Plague".
I have also not been feeling well and am due to have a tooth pulled out tomorrow morning. My dentist is inexpensive rather than sympathetic, so that promises to be quite the fulfilling experience.
But amidst the chaos and confusion, and brushing aside worries and responsibilities, I found 15 minutes to myself and stole into one of my favourite nurseries. Lost amongst their fabulous collection of seeds, I spent a lovely moment in time selecting the most delightful sounding vegetables I could find.
I walked out of that nursery on a high, quite thrilled with my purchases...
Perhaps I should take one as a good luck charm for the dentist's chair tomorrow?

Hi there... it could be that Felix didn't have tonsillitis but instead had Mononucleosis - also known as kissing disease. When you have this and you use penecillin to help against the supposed tonsillitis (both come with swollen tonsils, a temperature and general weakness - so they are easily confused with each other) then your body reacts with a rash. Ibuprofen helps against the swollen tonsils and make the fever go down too! I think for me it was the worst case of being sick in years because the pain and the fever drove me nuts, and I didn't have any painkillers at hand. But I had it longer than a week until the swelling went down because my boyfirends went to get some Ibuprofen for me.
Alright enough rambling. I enjoy your blog. Especially the garden posts. I only have a balcony to grow stuff on but that I do, even if I have no clue what I am doing. I am still a noob on that. So reading gardening blogs helps loads! So cheers for sharing!
Oh gosh... my boyfriend... duh... sounds like I have several... I need to got to bed... it is 4 am already. That's probably why!
Beam, I googled mono (we call it glandular fever here) and yes, it could easily be that. I don't really think the doctors know, but he's been swabbed and they are testing for measles as that is what they are worried about. Measles isn't very common here anymore. We get the test results back either today or tomorrow morning... I'll let you know.
And go for it, as long as they are working hard for you, have as many as you want :D!
Poor Ali! I hope Felix is better soon and that you weather tomorrow O.K. *hugs* Nice seeds, by the way. Oh and the book arrived and is waiting for me to pick it up at the P.O. Can't wait! Thanks.
OMG - sounds like the week from hell. Hope the dental work wasn't too awful. I should go to the dentist myself Iknow (my checkup us way overdue), but I can't bring myself to do it!
I hope next week will be better for you... Get some of those seeds sown to take your mind off the other things.
Far out - do we live in some parallel shopping universe or something? My Eden seeds order arrived today too! How's your mushroom kit going?
Take a packet and shake them the whole way through the procedure...
I hope you dont cry at the dentist like I do...my dentist thinks Im nuts...I think my dentist is nuts thinking that I will go back after what he charged me the last time...lol...
Suzanne I think dentists are from another planet... when I told him I was scared of having my tooth ripped out of my head he looked at me and said I was making a big deal out of nothing.
Oh is that right?
Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't most people afraid of the dentist?
500m2 nothing... nada, zip, zilch. But I'm not really surprised, because I don't actually believe mushrooms will grow in it. I'm trying to put some faith into it, but it's not coming from the heart... and the little mushies know it.
I can't figure out how to follow your blog??
Mark, don't go.
Hazel, I'm so glad it arrived! I was worried that they may all somehow get lost in the mail and I would look like a big fibber! And a paranoid one too.
Sending you good vibes Ali (just corrected typo which read 'vices'. what a difference one letter makes eh) after your hellish week.
Congrats on splurging on those uplifting sounding seeds. Who wouldn't be excited by a 'tomato mortgage lifter' I wonder.
Sending cyber hugs to poor wee Felix too. It's no fun being ill. Hope your hens recover from their shock also. Was it a cat do you think?
pS - My book may well have arrived also, but I only collect from the PO box about once a week or so when I'm over that way. Will do soon.
Sorry to hear you're having a rotten week Ali. Good luck at the dentist. The last time I went to the dentist was 5 years ago. Lucky I inherited good teeth and don't have a sweet tooth - I've never had a filling! I'm sure I'd be a big sook if I had to have a tooth pulled.
Ali, mine is only just starting now, and the spot I have it in is very dark and quite cold. I'd give yours at least a few more days before giving up on it!
I'm not sure how you normally subscribe to blogs (I'm new at this), but I've added an email subscription widget to my sidebar. Hope that helps.

Dear Ali... what a time! Hope, by the end of the week, that you're all feeling a lot better.
Oh what a terrible week you've had. I hope your trip to the dentist is painless and things start to look up.
Oh Ali what a CRAPOLA week!!!! Hope you all recover soon, hens included! xoxo
that's funny Ali, there is an ad at the bottom of the page advertising dentistry in Thailand...tell me you didn't go to Thailand to have your tooth pulled! LOL
Boo crazy life. Yay seeds though, I say take your beverage of choice out into the garden and pretend the world outside doesn't exist for a while. Hope it all settles soon. x.
Hi Ali, How are you now?
Your seed collection looks great - hope you're up to planting them! :-)
Poor Ali! Poor Felix and poor little chickens!
I hope everyone is recovering!
