This year, at our house, it is most definitely the Year of the Lime.
Five years it took, but wow, were they worth the wait. Soft and juicy, citrusy and tangy, our long awaited limes are truly sublime.
Our tremendous tree is not only producing limes this year, but it is also onto its second flowering. The tree is absolutely smothered in blossoms, it's quite the spectacular sight.
This lime tree is the only citrus tree we have in our yard. We decided on lime because they can be so expensive in the shops - often up to $2 each. Which is just silly. With the long wait we've had for these ones I'd be charging at least $10.

What do you use your limes for? Most people I know with lime trees can't give them away.
Oh no Judith - send them my way! I could quite easily squeeze lime over everything. Lime on chicken, in soups, in salad dressing, lime cakes, lime syrup over the cakes, lime and honey in hot water to cleanse, lime on fish, you name it, I'll stick lime on it :)
And if it's a alkaline-producing fruit like Lemon then you'll be eating more alkaline and loving it and reaping the benefits. If you find someone who loves making marmalade, Lime marmalade is something to behold and tastes sensational, too ;-)
The photographs are fabulous too ... what camera do you use, Ali?
Limes delicious limes - you can never have too many. I'm amazed how fresh citrus lasts for - makes them an extra handy crop - much better than my nectarines that turn to mould three days after harvest
Okay, well pop a couple of those in the box with the bananas too Ali, thanks.xx
How many limes does a tree like yours produce, Ali? I could do with a constant supply on-tap to go in my G&Ts...
Our lime tree has a couple of flowerings a year too so seems to have some fruit on it for most of the year. Not like the lemon that has masses all at once and then none until next Winter. Hope yours does the same. It's wonderful.
What variety of lime? I'm a Tahitian girl myself!!
Sigh! I went to buy a lime on the weekend and after a bit of research decided that limes don't like frost and it was probably a waste of time and money. Although the orange, lemon and, to a lesser extent, the mandarine do OK here. I decided to try a grafted dwarf lime in a pot...$54! But as I was potting it up yesterday, I noticed I had picked up a miniature kaffir lime. The Cook wouldn't let me take it back...she wants it for cooking. I will, however go back, and try again when I have saved up my money, and buy a proper one...a grafted, dwarf Tahitian, I am thinking.
Oooooooooooooooo I love limes. My lime trees(tahitian and kaffir) are the only citrus that are doing well in my garden! Poo! But oh how the ants love them too...
Yes, I'm a lime fan too, Yum.The citrus blossoms sure are a sight aren't they, My Oranges blossoms are all out at the moment and they smell sensational, Do the lime blossoms have a strong perfume as well?
Count me in too as a lime lover, though perhaps not quite as much as you Ali. Given my lack of success with lemons, maybe I should try a lime.
I really need to get one of these. I want a Kaffir lime tree so I can use the leaves for curry, I wonder if that means I will need two trees?
Oh Elaine, lime marmalade sounds MAGNIFICENT! What a fabulous idea. Let's hope that all those blossoms get to work. Thank you for your compliment on my photos, I just have a little Sony Cybershot, just a point and click camera - which is all I know how to do anyway :)
Mark I don't really know, as I presume mine, which has produced 6 - 7 this year, is not at full capacity yet... I'd LOVE them all year round like Missy's.
Phoebe, let's Tahit together... that's my lime!
I have never cooked with Kaffir lime leaves - the next time I go to the nursery I am going to look for one... unless Hazel wants to send me a continual supply by post??? :)
DirtandFlowers maybe you could get them grafted onto the same tree??
And thenewgoodlife, it only took five years for the lime to produce... five looooooooong years!
Sorry Gooseberry, I missed your comment. Ummm I don't know! Lol, I'll go stick my nose in them tomorrow and let you know :)
