I really wanted to call this post My Big Fat Zucchini and If You Want it to Rain Have an Outdoor Party, but really, if I set that sort of precedent, who knows the lengths my post titles will eventually reach?
Possibly much like my sentences - way too long.
So yes, it has rained, and not because I washed the car or left my washing on the line, oh no, that wasn't quite enough. What I had to do was to throw a party - you know the kind, the kind where you all sit around outside so as to enjoy the great outdoors. Until it starts sprinkling just that little too hard. Possibly not hard enough to penetrate the soil to any great depth, but most certainly enough to drive everyone upstairs.Call me the Rain Party God.
Anyway, back to matters more vegetal.
I have zucchini. Or indeed courgette, if you prefer. And this is my Biggest Zucchini Ever.
Finally, after fussing over the plants for months, I have cracked a size larger than my little finger. How did I do it?
I stopped fussing and left them alone.
The Zucchini Rain Party God I am thinking.

Wait till you overlook one and it grows to the length of a small toddler!!!
I have zucchinis doing this as well (I am picking lots at the moment). The gardening bloke on the radio said the soil may be lacking potassium...
Yes these can get big, then I think they are called a marrow and are great for stuffing, yum :)
You made it rain? Ok, that's a useful superpower, but probably not if the only way to exercise it is by throwing a party.. :)
Hey! I have a matching one down here....they need lots of water Ali, you can tell that one started off with not much and then you must have watered....thats why the funny shape...but I have a few that are looking like that...Im going to pick and post about mine today too....how exciting...!!! thats it, the excitement of my day is picking my zuks....
Did you name him? Some kind of watery theme? I bet he was all things deliciousness.
Are you sure that is a zucchini and not a pear?
Wee hooooooo! YUM! I can't wait for my little ones to grow. C'mon!
ps I finally posted it - sorry it has taken me so long xx
Ooh that looks like my zucchini picked the other day - though I called it hippy, not fat! It tasted great for dinner though despite the names I called it!
My zucchini seedlings keep getting eaten by snails and then I have to start from seed again. And then they get eaten by snails...
I am way behind.
i have planted way less zues this year ,when they get going they really go off
I agree with you the garden grows better when you ar not looking a bit like waiting for the kettle to boil.
