They Chopped Off Their Heads!

Six of them!
I love sunflowers. I never plant any flowers, apart from sunflowers. They are fabulous - showy and cheery and just plain beautiful. I just love them.

So I thought I'd plant a whole lot along our front fence and share them with passersby.

Well we shared them alright. Someone reached in over our fence and chopped off their heads! I am a victim of flower theft! And if you think that is terribly terrible, well, my poor neighbours lost more than just one rose...

To be honest though, I'm a little torn between being peeved that someone stole my flowers, and being chuffed that someone thought them worth stealing.

I have steal worthy garden goods.

Outrageous! And just a little funny that people would sneak around stealing flowers :)

I'd be very cranky. I'm growing mine to get the seeds for my chooks.

That is just unbelievable. Did you get to enjoy any of them first? Or even photograph them? A friend had this happen to her gorgeous prize Yuccas. Perhaps next time pop a few on the nature strip as well and yours might be left alone. melx

Cockatoos like to steal ours, often just before flowering, much prefer a feathered rascal.

What a shame. It would really irritate me.

Good on you for looking on the bright(ish) side! Maybe they were getting married and needed a bouquet in a hurry?

I think that's bloody terrible!

That is SO WRONG.

HUMFH. If it time to put sunflowers in the ground here. We were thinking of doing some in small pots to put out on the nature strip when they are bigger for all to enjoy. This story makes me wonder...

I'm surprised that you sound so calm about this incident. I struggle to understand how somebody can do a thing like that. Why??

Hmm. The garden dilemma. Taking big flowers from someone's yard is wrong, especially sunflowers, but I can understand the odd Rose bloom here and their. Maybe one but not the whole lot. That's just plain rude.
You should put a sign up saying "To the flower thief: I hope my sunflowers have given you horrendous hay fever. If you want a flower, just ask, otherwise its STEALING"

Oh my goodness, really!! That is disgusting. I think Phoebe's sign idea is good!

Wow, that's so nasty! They take so long to bloom :( and they only have one main flower too - not like someone just picking a frangiapani or something (although they sometimes reshoot if you leave the stalk growing).
Last year Bulimba school gave out free sunflower seeds, to be planted along your front fence in november, so that they would be flowering to welcome the kids back to school in Jan. :) Think it was a lovely idea to have such happy flowers out the front of your house :) what a shame.
I find the cheap ones that you feed the chooks come up best here - We have them coming up like weeds everywhere now! I'll have to install some security cams lol.

I've had someone dig up a grevillea from my front garden and a friend has an olive tree stolen - it is just so annoying isn't it. I hope your thief at least used the seeds, at least then its less like vandalism....

I would be absolutely furious....though it is hard to know where to channel flower-theft fury. I agree with Phoebe, stealing a sunflower is not like picking the odd rose, or a little piece of something as a cutting. A very, low, low act!

Bummer!

Hmm... nah, didn't bother me that much! In my mind it was for some romantic gesture, and I would happily give away flowers for that... and I have a whole lot more sunflowers along the side passage and in the backyard, so in the grand scheme of things, it's just a teeny drop in the ocean... if someone touches my bananas however!!!
